This found at ... 1&a=430295 concerning a large expansion of Fantasyland. The interesting part is in the 5th and 6th paragraphs (seen below) A new underwater ride-though not 20K :-(

"Disney says the Fantasyland project will be completed by 2013 and will include a major renovation of the facility, plus a new Little Mermaid ride. Fantasyland changes will feature themes based on its popular princesses and fairies franchises, which include Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Ariel, Tinker Bell and others. Changes will include a Beauty and the Beast castle, complete with a themed restaurant and interactive fairytale lands for Disney princesses.

The additions will take over the current Toontown World, and include an underwater ride based on Disney's The Little Mermaid where the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" ride used to be, plus a revamp of the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride, which will include an interactive three-ring circus tent. "

Sadly, Disney just pulled a $15 mil permit for the Little Mermaid ride, so it looks like the ride is hanging in the balance, which would be sad considering it was destined to be underwater like 20K where 20K was, like an homage to the area that took 20K's place after it closed. You never know though, it could resurface because, as the Imagineers say: "In Imagineering, no good idea ever gets thrown away"

Yeah, sorry about the whole underwater thing. Our newspaper actually said it was going to be underwater XD. Talk about twisted media. Anyways, they probably want to show off some new technique for making it look like ur underwater like how 20k used the bubbles to simulate the sub diving rather than create a mini 20k style lagoon. Pointless, yes. Why not just add the nemo sub ride from California in?

As for the Little Mermaid, I wouldn't get your hopes up in that respect...

With regards to the California subs: the only reason they are on the go is that a core at WDI lobbied hard for them (where were they in 1994?), the infrastructure hadn't deteriorated as fast as Florida's had and was salvagable and the subs were built to last (pure steel all over; no cracking fiberglass like on Florida's). They wouldn't build it from scratch somewhere else; it's a one-off.
